Nitecore SUMMIT Air
Nitecore SUMMIT Air: A Lightweight, Waterproof Power Bank for Snow, Trails and Travel
The Nitecore SUMMIT Air packs 28.8Wh (8,000mAh) into a 135g, IPX8-rated body with two USB-C ports and up to 22.5W output. It's built to keep working down to -40°C, so it's just as handy on Australian ski fields as it is on a wet alpine trail or packed in your carry-on.
*Nitecore's headline figure. The rated capacity is 4,700mAh at 5V, explained below.
What 8,000mAh really means
Power bank capacity can be quoted several ways, which is why the SUMMIT Air lists both 8,000mAh and 4,700mAh. Watt-hours (Wh) are the clearest measure, because they account for voltage.
In practice: Nitecore rates the actual output at about 23.5Wh after conversion and operating losses. As a rough guide, that's around one to two full charges for many smartphones, depending on the phone.
Built for cold and wet conditions
Lithium batteries lose performance in the cold, and some power banks stop working altogether. Nitecore rates the SUMMIT Air to charge your devices in temperatures from -40°C to 60°C.

Cold and wet tips: Charge the SUMMIT Air itself only between 0°C and 50°C, never below freezing. Keep it in an inside jacket pocket between uses. If it gets wet, dry the ports completely before charging, and don't charge or discharge it underwater.
A small, lightweight power bank that's easy to carry
At 92 × 41 × 21mm and 135g, the SUMMIT Air slips into a ski jacket pocket, waist pack or running vest. Nitecore pairs a carbon fibre shell with a flame-retardant reinforced composite to keep it strong without adding weight.
- 135gTotal weight (±5g)
- 19.5gStructural weight, per Nitecore
- 92mmPocket-sized length
- MCUSmart controller with dual temperature sensors
Inside, the controller guards against overcharging, over-discharging, overcurrent, overvoltage, short circuits and overheating.
Dual USB-C ports, designed for gloves
Both ports are USB-C, so one cable type covers your phone, action camera and heated gear. Supported fast-charging standards include PD, QC 3.0 and SCP.
Recharges the SUMMIT Air at up to 20W, and charges your devices at up to 22.5W.
Charges your devices at up to 22.5W.
Charges two devices together, sharing 15W in total.
A short press lights up the port indicators, which glow yellow to show where to plug in, then cycle through RGB colours and switch off after about a minute. Four power indicators show the remaining charge.
Flying with the SUMMIT Air
At 28.8Wh, the SUMMIT Air sits well under the limits used by Australian airlines, and Nitecore says it complies with the UN38.3 lithium battery transport standard. The rules changed in late 2025, so here's the current picture.
Power bank rules on Australian airlines (as at September 2026)
- Carry-on only: power banks aren't allowed in checked baggage.
- Two per person: Qantas, QantasLink and Jetstar allow up to two power banks, each up to 160Wh.
- No use on board: Qantas Group airlines and Virgin Australia don't allow power banks to be used or charged during the flight, including from in-seat power.
- Keep it within reach: in the seat pocket or under the seat in front of you.
- Charge before you fly: top up the power bank and your devices before boarding.
Rules vary between airlines and can change. Check the latest from Qantas and Virgin Australia, and your carrier's rules for international flights.
